           TheFrench,avoidingtheRussians,dispersedandhidthemselvesintheforestbynight,makingtheirwayroundasbesttheycould,andcontinuedtheirflight.

           Milorádovich,whosaidhedidnotwanttoknowanythingaboutthecommissariataffairsofhisdetachment,andcouldneverbefoundwhenhewaswanted—thatchevaliersanspeuretsansreproche*ashestyledhimself—whowasfondofparleyswiththeFrench,sentenvoysdemandingtheirsurrender,wastedtime,anddidnotdowhathewasorderedtodo.
