           FromGórki,Bennigsendescendedthehighroadtothebridgewhich,whentheyhadlookedatitfromthehill,theofficerhadpointedoutasbeingthecenterofourpositionandwhererowsoffragrantnew-mownhaylaybytheriverside.TheyrodeacrossthatbridgeintothevillageofBorodinóandthenceturnedtotheleft,passinganenormousnumberoftroopsandguns,andcametoahighknollwheremilitiamenweredigging.Thiswastheredoubt,asyetunnamed,whichafterwardsbecameknownastheRaévskiRedoubt,ortheKnollBattery,butPierrepaidnospecialattentiontoit.HedidnotknowthatitwouldbecomemorememorabletohimthananyotherspotontheplainofBorodinó.
