           Yetinspiteofthat,hisrelationtoher—considerate,delicate,andloving—notonlyremainedunchanged,butitsometimesseemedtoPrincessMarythathewasevengladthatthefamilyconnectionbetweenthemallowedhimtoexpresshisfriendshipmorefreely.Sheknewthatshelovedforthefirstandonlytimeinherlifeandfeltthatshewasbeloved,andwashappyinregardtoit.

           Butthishappinessononesideofherspiritualnaturedidnotpreventherfeelinggriefforherbrotherwithfullforce;onthecontrary,thatspiritualtranquilityontheonesidemadeitthemorepossibleforhertogivefullplaytoherfeelingforherbrother.
