           Allweresilent.Túshinappearedatthethresholdandmadehiswaytimidlyfrombehindthebacksofthegenerals.Ashesteppedpastthegeneralsinthecrowdedhut,feelingembarrassedashealwayswasbythesightofhissuperiors,hedidnotnoticethestaffofthebannerandstumbledoverit.Severalofthosepresentlaughed.

           Túshindidnotsaythattherewerenocoveringtroops,thoughthatwasperfectlytrue.
