           Onthehighgroundwheretheenemywas,thesmokeofacannonrose,andaballflewwhistlingovertheheadsofthehussarsquadron.Theofficerswhohadbeenstandingtogetherrodeofftotheirplaces.Thehussarsbegancarefullyaligningtheirhorses.Silencefellonthewholesquadron.Allwerelookingattheenemyinfrontandatthesquadroncommander,awaitingthewordofcommand.Asecondandathirdcannonballflewpast.Evidentlytheywerefiringatthehussars,buttheballswithrapidrhythmicwhistleflewovertheheadsofthehorsemenandfellsomewherebeyondthem.
