           TenminuteslaterLavrúshkabroughtthecoffee.“He’scoming!”saidhe.“Nowfortrouble!”RostóvlookedoutofthewindowandsawDenísovcominghome.Denísovwasasmallmanwitharedface,sparklingblackeyes,andblacktousledmustacheandhair.Heworeanunfastenedcloak,widebreecheshangingdownincreases,andacrumpledshakoonthebackofhishead.Hecameuptotheporchgloomily,hanginghishead.

           “Lavwúska!”heshoutedloudlyandangrily,“takeitoff,blockhead!”

           “Well,Iamtakingitoff,”repliedLavrúshka’svoice.

           “Ah,you’reupalready,”saidDenísov,enteringtheroom.

           “Longago,”answeredRostóv,“Ihavealreadybeenforthehay,andhaveseenFräuleinMathilde.”

           “Weally!AndI’vebeenlosing,bwother.Ilostyesterdaylikeadamnedfool!”criedDenísov,notpronouncinghisr’s.“Suchillluck!Suchillluck.Assoonasyouleft,itbeganandwenton.Hullothere!Tea!”

           Puckeringuphisfacethoughsmiling,andshowinghisshortstrongteeth,hebeganwithstubbyfingersofbothhandstoruffleuphisthicktangledblackhair.
