           ButwhenhehadbeenontheSemënovskheightstheartillerycommanderhadproposedtohimtobringseveralbatteriesofartilleryuptothoseheightstostrengthenthefireontheRussiantroopscrowdedinfrontofKnyazkóvo.Napoleonhadassentedandhadgivenordersthatnewsshouldbebroughttohimoftheeffectthosebatteriesproduced.

           AnadjutantcamenowtoinformhimthatthefireoftwohundredgunshadbeenconcentratedontheRussians,ashehadordered,butthattheystillheldtheirground.

           “Ourfireismowingthemdownbyrows,butstilltheyholdon,”saidtheadjutant.

           “Theywantmore!...”saidNapoleoninahoarsevoice.
