Thesearethetimes,wheninhiswhale-boattheroversoftlyfeelsacertainfilial,confident,land-likefeelingtowardsthesea;thatheregardsitassomuchfloweryearth;andthedistantshiprevealingonlythetopsofhermasts,seemsstrugglingforward,notthroughhighrollingwaves,butthroughthetallgrassofarollingprairie:aswhenthewesternemigrants’horsesonlyshowtheirerectedears,whiletheirhiddenbodieswidelywadethroughtheamazingverdure.
