           And,indeed,itseemedsmallmatterforwonder,thatforallhispervading,madrecklessness,Ahab,didattimesgivecarefulheedtotheconditionofthatdeadboneuponwhichhepartlystood.ForithadnotbeenverylongpriortothePequod’ssailingfromNantucket,thathehadbeenfoundonenightlyingproneupontheground,andinsensible;bysomeunknown,andseeminglyinexplicable,unimaginablecasualty,hisivorylimbhavingbeensoviolentlydisplaced,thatithadstake-wisesmitten,andallbutpiercedhisgroin;norwasitwithoutextremedifficultythattheagonizingwoundwasentirelycured.
