           Norwasthepulpititselfwithoutatraceofthesamesea-tastethathadachievedtheladderandthepicture.Itspanelledfrontwasinthelikenessofaship’sbluffbows,andtheHolyBiblerestedonaprojectingpieceofscrollwork,fashionedafteraship’sfiddle-headedbeak.

           Whatcouldbemorefullofmeaning?forthepulpitiseverthisearth’sforemostpart;alltherestcomesinitsrear;thepulpitleadstheworld.FromthenceitisthestormofGod’squickwrathisfirstdescried,andthebowmustbeartheearliestbrunt.FromthenceitistheGodofbreezesfairorfoulisfirstinvokedforfavorablewinds.Yes,theworld’sashiponitspassageout,andnotavoyagecomplete;andthepulpitisitsprow.
