Itmaybebutanidlewhim,butithasalwaysseemedtome,thattheextraordinaryvacillationsofmovementdisplayedbysomewhaleswhenbesetbythreeorfourboats;thetimidityandliabilitytoqueerfrights,socommontosuchwhales;Ithinkthatallthisindirectlyproceedsfromthehelplessperplexityofvolition,inwhichtheirdividedanddiametricallyoppositepowersofvisionmustinvolvethem.
