           "Clearawaytheboats!Luff!"criedAhab.Andobeyinghisownorder,hedashedthehelmdownbeforethehelmsmancouldhandlethespokes.

           Thesuddenexclamationsofthecrewmusthavealarmedthewhale;anderetheboatsweredown,majesticallyturning,heswamawaytotheleeward,butwithsuchasteadytranquillity,andmakingsofewripplesasheswam,thatthinkingafterallhemightnotasyetbealarmed,Ahabgaveordersthatnotanoarshouldbeused,andnomanmustspeakbutinwhispers.
