IntheEnglishboatstwotubsareusedinsteadofone;thesamelinebeingcontinuouslycoiledinbothtubs.Thereissomeadvantageinthis;becausethesetwin-tubsbeingsosmalltheyfitmorereadilyintotheboat,anddonotstrainitsomuch;whereas,theAmericantub,nearlythreefeetindiameterandofproportionatedepth,makesaratherbulkyfreightforacraftwhoseplanksarebutone-halfinchinthickness;forthebottomofthewhale-boatislikecriticalice,whichwillbearupaconsiderabledistributedweight,butnotverymuchofaconcentratedone.WhenthepaintedcanvascoverisclappedontheAmericantubline,theboatlooksasifitwerepullingoffwithaprodigiousgreatwedding-caketopresenttothewhales.
