ButthereareotherinstanceswherethiswhitenesslosesallthataccessoryandstrangeglorywhichinvestsitintheWhiteSteedandAlbatross.
WhatisitthatintheAlbinomansopeculiarlyrepelsandoftenshockstheeye,asthatsometimesheisloathedbyhisownkithandkin!Itisthatwhitenesswhichinvestshim,athingexpressedbythenamehebears.TheAlbinoisaswellmadeasothermen—hasnosubstantivedeformity—andyetthismereaspectofall-pervadingwhitenessmakeshimmorestrangelyhideousthantheugliestabortion.Whyshouldthisbeso?
