           Itmayseemunwarrantabletocoupleinanyrespectthemast-headstandersofthelandwiththoseofthesea;butthatintruthitisnotso,isplainlyevincedbyanitemforwhichObedMacy,thesolehistorianofNantucket,standsaccountable.TheworthyObedtellsus,thatintheearlytimesofthewhalefishery,ereshipswereregularlylaunchedinpursuitofthegame,thepeopleofthatislanderectedloftysparsalongtheseacoast,towhichthelook-outsascendedbymeansofnailedcleats,somethingasfowlsgoupstairsinahen-house.AfewyearsagothissameplanwasadoptedbytheBaywhalemenofNewZealand,who,upondescryingthegame,gavenoticetotheready-mannedboatsnighthebeach.Butthiscustomhasnowbecomeobsolete;turnwethentotheonepropermast-head,thatofawhale-shipatsea.
