           Whenhegothome,VronskyfoundthereanotefromAnna.Shewrote,“Iamillandunhappy.Icannotcomeout,butIcannotgoonlongerwithoutseeingyou.Comeinthisevening.AlexeyAlexandrovitchgoestothecouncilatsevenandwillbetheretillten.”Thinkingforaninstantofthestrangenessofherbiddinghimcomestraighttoher,inspiteofherhusband’sinsistingonhernotreceivinghim,hedecidedtogo.
