           Vronskyfollowedtheguardtothecarriage,andatthedoorofthecompartmenthestoppedshorttomakeroomforaladywhowasgettingout.

           Vronskysteppedintothecarriage.Hismother,adried-upoldladywithblackeyesandringlets,screweduphereyes,scanningherson,andsmiledslightlywithherthinlips.
