           Thecoachmanpulleduphisfourhorsesandlookedroundtotheright,toafieldofrye,wheresomepeasantsweresittingonacart.Thecounting-houseclerkwasjustgoingtojumpdown,butonsecondthoughtsheshoutedperemptorilytothepeasantsinstead,andbeckonedtothemtocomeup.Thewind,thatseemedtoblowastheydrove,droppedwhenthecarriagestoodstill;gadfliessettledonthesteaminghorsesthatangrilyshookthemoff.Themetallicclankofawhetstoneagainstascythe,thatcametothemfromthecart,ceased.Oneofthepeasantsgotupandcametowardsthecarriage.

           “Well,youareslow!”thecounting-houseclerkshoutedangrilytothepeasantwhowassteppingslowlywithhisbarefeetovertherutsoftheroughdryroad.“Comealong,do!”
