           OnMondaytherewastheusualsittingoftheCommissionofthe2ndofJune.AlexeyAlexandrovitchwalkedintothehallwherethesittingwasheld,greetedthemembersandthepresident,asusual,andsatdowninhisplace,puttinghishandonthepaperslaidreadybeforehim.Amongthesepaperslaythenecessaryevidenceandaroughoutlineofthespeechheintendedtomake.Buthedidnotreallyneedthesedocuments.Herememberedeverypoint,anddidnotthinkitnecessarytogooverinhismemorywhathewouldsay.Heknewthatwhenthetimecame,andwhenhesawhisenemyfacinghim,andstudiouslyendeavoringtoassumeanexpressionofindifference,hisspeechwouldflowofitselfbetterthanhecouldprepareitnow.Hefeltthattheimportofhisspeechwasofsuchmagnitudethateverywordofitwouldhaveweight.Meantime,ashelistenedtotheusualreport,hehadthemostinnocentandinoffensiveair.Noone,lookingathiswhitehands,withtheirswollenveinsandlongfingers,sosoftlystrokingtheedgesofthewhitepaperthatlaybeforehim,andattheairofwearinesswithwhichhisheaddroopedononeside,wouldhavesuspectedthatinafewminutesatorrentofwordswouldflowfromhislipsthatwouldarouseafearfulstorm,setthemembersshoutingandattackingoneanother,andforcethepresidenttocallfororder.Whenthereportwasover,AlexeyAlexandrovitchannouncedinhissubdued,delicatevoicethathehadseveralpointstobringbeforethemeetinginregardtotheCommissionfortheReorganizationoftheNativeTribes.Allattentionwasturneduponhim.
