           Dinnerwasonthetable;shewentup,butthesmellofthebreadandcheesewasenoughtomakeherfeelthatallfoodwasdisgusting.Sheorderedthecarriageandwentout.Thehousethrewashadownowrightacrossthestreet,butitwasabrighteveningandstillwarminthesunshine.Annushka,whocamedownwithherthings,andPyotr,whoputthethingsinthecarriage,andthecoachman,evidentlyoutofhumor,wereallhatefultoher,andirritatedherbytheirwordsandactions.

           “Idon’twantyou,Pyotr.”

           “Buthowabouttheticket?”

           “Well,asyoulike,itdoesn’tmatter,”shesaidcrossly.

           Pyotrjumpedonthebox,andputtinghisarmsakimbo,toldthecoachmantodrivetothebooking-office.
