           Inthemorningshewaswakedbyahorriblenightmare,whichhadrecurredseveraltimesinherdreams,evenbeforeherconnectionwithVronsky.Alittleoldmanwithunkemptbeardwasdoingsomethingbentdownoversomeiron,mutteringmeaninglessFrenchwords,andshe,asshealwaysdidinthisnightmare(itwaswhatmadethehorrorofit),feltthatthispeasantwastakingnonoticeofher,butwasdoingsomethinghorriblewiththeironoverher.Andshewakedupinacoldsweat.

           Themiststhathadshroudedeverythinginhersoulpartedsuddenly.Thefeelingsofyesterdaypiercedthesickheartwithafreshpang.
