           Theotherhorsestoowerefrightened,andsplashingthroughthewaterwiththeirhobbledlegs,anddrawingtheirhoofsoutofthethickmudwithasquelchingsound,theyboundedoutofthemarsh.Laskastopped,lookingironicallyatthehorsesandinquiringlyatLevin.LevinpattedLaska,andwhistledasasignthatshemightbegin.

           Laskaranjoyfullyandanxiouslythroughtheslushthatswayedunderher.
