           Itwaslongaftertheinfantrydrumhadbeatentattoo,andthecavalrybuglesoundedthesignalforthegarrisonofFortIngetogotobedinfactitwasmuchnearerthehourofmidnightwhenahorsemanrodeawayfromthedoorofOberdoffer’shotel;and,takingthedown-riverroad,wassoonlosttothesightofthelatestloitererwhomighthavebeenstrollingthroughthestreetsofthevillage.

           Itisalreadyknown,thatthisroadpassedthehaciendaofCasadelCorvo,atsomedistancefromthehouse,andontheoppositesideoftheriver.Itisalsoknownthatatthesameplaceittraversedastretchofopenprairie,withonlyapieceofcopsewoodmidwaybetweentwoextensivetractsofchapparal.
