           Thisisso,evenwhenthepartiesarewellknown,andofrespectablestandinginsociety.Whentheduellistsareofhumblepositionor,asisoftenthecase,strangersintheplaceasingledaymaysufficetodoomtheirachievementtooblivion;todwellonlyinthememoryofthecombatantwhohassurviveditofteneronethanbothandperhapssomeill-starredspectator,whohasbeenboredbyabullet,orreceivedtheslashofaknife,notdesignedforhim.

           MorethanoncehaveIbeenwitnesstoa"streetfight"improviseduponthepavementwheresomeinnocuouscitizen,saunteringcarelesslyalong,hasbecomethevictimevenuntodeathofthisirregularmethodofseeking"satisfaction."
