Thegalleywaskeptsteady,andthesilent,eagerlook-outatthewaterwasresumed.But,theRotterdamsteamernowcameup,andapparentlynotunderstandingwhathadhappened,cameonatspeed.Bythetimeshehadbeenhailedandstopped,bothsteamersweredriftingawayfromus,andwewererisingandfallinginatroubledwakeofwater.Thelook-outwaskept,longafterallwasstillagainandthetwosteamersweregone;buteverybodyknewthatitwashopelessnow.
