           Itwasadarknight,thoughthefullmoonroseasIlefttheenclosedlands,andpassedoutuponthemarshes.Beyondtheirdarklinetherewasaribbonofclearsky,hardlybroadenoughtoholdtheredlargemoon.Inafewminutesshehadascendedoutofthatclearfield,inamongthepiledmountainsofcloud.

           Therewasamelancholywind,andthemarsheswereverydismal.Astrangerwouldhavefoundtheminsupportable,andeventometheyweresooppressivethatIhesitated,halfinclinedtogoback.ButIknewthemwell,andcouldhavefoundmywayonafardarkernight,andhadnoexcuseforreturning,beingthere.So,havingcomethereagainstmyinclination,Iwentonagainstit.
