           BythenmakingaloopofaboutacoupleofmilesintotheopencountryatthebackofPumblechook’spremises,IgotroundintotheHighStreetagain,alittlebeyondthatpitfall,andfeltmyselfincomparativesecurity.

           Castingmyeyesalongthestreetatacertainpointofmyprogress,IbeheldTrabb’sboyapproaching,lashinghimselfwithanemptybluebag.Deemingthatasereneandunconsciouscontemplationofhimwouldbestbeseemme,andwouldbemostlikelytoquellhisevilmind,Iadvancedwiththatexpressionofcountenance,andwasrathercongratulatingmyselfonmysuccess,whensuddenlythekneesofTrabb’sboysmotetogether,hishairuprose,hiscapfelloff,hetrembledviolentlyineverylimb,staggeredoutintotheroad,andcryingtothepopulace,"Holdme!I’msofrightened!"feignedtobeinaparoxysmofterrorandcontrition,occasionedbythedignityofmyappearance.
