           Weshookhandsforthehundredthtimeatleast,andheorderedayoungcarteroutofmywaywiththegreatestindignation.Then,heblessedmeandstoodwavinghishandtomeuntilIhadpassedthecrookintheroad;andthenIturnedintoafieldandhadalongnapunderahedgebeforeIpursuedmywayhome.

           IhadscantluggagetotakewithmetoLondon,forlittleofthelittleIpossessedwasadaptedtomynewstation.ButIbeganpackingthatsameafternoon,andwildlypackedupthingsthatIknewIshouldwantnextmorning,inafictionthattherewasnotamomenttobelost.

           So,Tuesday,Wednesday,andThursday,passed;andonFridaymorningIwenttoMr.Pumblechook’s,toputonmynewclothesandpaymyvisittoMissHavisham.Mr.Pumblechook’sownroomwasgivenuptometodressin,andwasdecoratedwithcleantowelsexpresslyfortheevent.Myclotheswereratheradisappointment,ofcourse.Probablyeverynewandeagerlyexpectedgarmenteverputonsinceclothescamein,fellatrifleshortofthewearer’sexpectation.
