           WhethermyrmidonsofJustice,speciallysentdownfromLondon,wouldbelyinginambushbehindthegate;whetherMissHavisham,preferringtotakepersonalvengeanceforanoutragedonetoherhouse,mightriseinthosegrave-clothesofhers,drawapistol,andshootmedead:—whethersubornedboysanumerousbandofmercenariesmightbeengagedtofalluponmeinthebrewery,andcuffmeuntilIwasnomore;itwashightestimonytomyconfidenceinthespiritofthepaleyounggentleman,thatIneverimaginedhimaccessorytotheseretaliations;theyalwayscameintomymindastheactsofinjudiciousrelativesofhis,goadedonbythestateofhisvisageandanindignantsympathywiththefamilyfeatures.
