           Uponthatestablishmentofstate,theMerdleestablishmentinHarleyStreet,CavendishSquare,therewastheshadowofnomorecommonwallthanthefrontsofotherestablishmentsofstateontheoppositesideofthestreet.LikeunexceptionableSociety,theopposingrowsofhousesinHarleyStreetwereverygrimwithoneanother.Indeed,themansionsandtheirinhabitantsweresomuchalikeinthatrespect,thatthepeoplewereoftentobefounddrawnuponoppositesidesofdinner-tables,intheshadeoftheirownloftiness,staringattheothersideofthewaywiththedullnessofthehouses.

           Everybodyknowshowlikethestreetthetwodinner-rowsofpeoplewhotaketheirstandbythestreetwillbe.
