           Revolvingallthisinhermind,shecasthereyesaroundher,andarrangedthetopographyofthegardeninherhead.Miladywaslikeagoodgeneralwhocontemplatesatthesametimevictoryanddefeat,andwhoisquiteprepared,accordingtothechancesofthebattle,tomarchforwardortobeataretreat.

           Attheendofanhoursheheardasoftvoicecallingher;itwasMme.Bonacieux’s.Thegoodabbesshadnaturallyconsentedtoherrequest;andasacommencement,theyweretosuptogether.
