           Hetraversedacorridor,crossedagrandsaloon,enteredalibrary,andfoundhimselfinthepresenceofamanseatedatadeskandwriting.

           Theusherintroducedhim,andretiredwithoutspeakingaword.D’Artagnanremainedstandingandexaminedthisman.

           D’Artagnanatfirstbelievedthathehadtodowithsomejudgeexamininghispapers;butheperceivedthatthemanatthedeskwrote,orrathercorrected,linesofunequallength,scanningthewordsonhisfingers.Hesawthenthathewaswithapoet.Attheendofaninstantthepoetclosedhismanuscript,uponthecoverofwhichwaswritten"Mirame,aTragedyinFiveActs,"andraisedhishead.
