           ‘YouknewIwould.Youknewme,’sheinterrupted.

           Hersonpausedforamoment.Hehadstruckfireoutofher,andwassurprised.‘Well!’shesaid,relapsingintostone.‘Goon.Letmehear.’

           ‘Youhaveanticipated,mother,thatIdecideformypart,toabandonthebusiness.Ihavedonewithit.Iwillnottakeuponmyselftoadviseyou;youwillcontinueit,Isee.IfIhadanyinfluencewithyou,Iwouldsimplyuseittosoftenyourjudgmentofmeincausingyouthisdisappointment:torepresenttoyouthatIhavelivedthehalfofalongtermoflife,andhaveneverbeforesetmyownwillagainstyours.
