           Inthefirstplace,publicinterestintheideaofelevatedroadswasincreasing.Theywereanovelty,afactorinthelifeofNewYork;andatthistimerivalrywiththegreatcosmopolitanheartwasverykeeninthemindoftheaverageChicagocitizen.Publicsentimentinthisdirection,howevernaiveorunworthy,wasneverthelesssufficienttomakeanyelevatedroadinChicagopopularforthetimebeing.
