           ThiswasalloverheardbyMissDashwood;andinthewholeofthesentence,inhismannerofpronouncingit,andinhisaddressinghersisterbyherChristiannamealone,sheinstantlysawanintimacysodecided,ameaningsodirect,asmarkedaperfectagreementbetweenthem.Fromthatmomentshedoubtednotoftheirbeingengagedtoeachother;andthebeliefofitcreatednoothersurprisethanthatshe,oranyoftheirfriends,shouldbeleftbytemperssofrank,todiscoveritbyaccident.

           Margaretrelatedsomethingtoherthenextday,whichplacedthismatterinastillclearerlight.Willoughbyhadspenttheprecedingeveningwiththem,andMargaret,bybeingleftsometimeintheparlourwithonlyhimandMarianne,hadhadopportunityforobservations,which,withamostimportantface,shecommunicatedtohereldestsister,whentheywerenextbythemselves.

           "Youhavesaidso,"repliedElinor,"almosteverydaysincetheyfirstmetonHigh-churchDown;andtheyhadnotknowneachotheraweek,Ibelieve,beforeyouwerecertainthatMarianneworehispictureroundherneck;butitturnedouttobeonlytheminiatureofourgreatuncle.
