           Withinafewdaysafterthismeeting,thenewspapersannouncedtotheworld,thattheladyofThomasPalmer,Esq.wassafelydeliveredofasonandheir;averyinterestingandsatisfactoryparagraph,atleasttoallthoseintimateconnectionswhoknewitbefore.

           Thisevent,highlyimportanttoMrs.Jennings’shappiness,producedatemporaryalterationinthedisposalofhertime,andinfluenced,inalikedegree,theengagementsofheryoungfriends;forasshewishedtobeasmuchaspossiblewithCharlotte,shewentthithereverymorningassoonasshewasdressed,anddidnotreturntilllateintheevening;andtheMissDashwoods,attheparticularrequestoftheMiddletons,spentthewholeofeverydayinConduitStreet.Fortheirowncomforttheywouldmuchratherhaveremained,atleastallthemorning,inMrs.Jennings’shouse;butitwasnotathingtobeurgedagainstthewishesofeverybody.TheirhourswerethereforemadeovertoLadyMiddletonandthetwoMissSteeles,bywhomtheircompany,infactwasaslittlevalued,asitwasprofessedlysought.

           Theyhadtoomuchsensetobedesirablecompanionstotheformer;andbythelattertheywereconsideredwithajealouseye,asintrudingonTHEIRground,andsharingthekindnesswhichtheywantedtomonopolize.ThoughnothingcouldbemorepolitethanLadyMiddleton’sbehaviourtoElinorandMarianne,shedidnotreallylikethematall.
