           ElinorcouldnotfindherselfinthecarriagewithMrs.Jennings,andbeginningajourneytoLondonunderherprotection,andasherguest,withoutwonderingatherownsituation,soshorthadtheiracquaintancewiththatladybeen,sowhollyunsuitedweretheyinageanddisposition,andsomanyhadbeenherobjectionsagainstsuchameasureonlyafewdaysbefore!Buttheseobjectionshadall,withthathappyardourofyouthwhichMarianneandhermotherequallyshared,beenovercomeoroverlooked;andElinor,inspiteofeveryoccasionaldoubtofWilloughby’sconstancy,couldnotwitnesstheraptureofdelightfulexpectationwhichfilledthewholesoulandbeamedintheeyesofMarianne,withoutfeelinghowblankwasherownprospect,howcheerlessherownstateofmindinthecomparison,andhowgladlyshewouldengageinthesolicitudeofMarianne’ssituationtohavethesameanimatingobjectinview,thesamepossibilityofhope.Ashort,averyshorttimehowevermustnowdecidewhatWilloughby’sintentionswere;inallprobabilityhewasalreadyintown.Marianne’seagernesstobegonedeclaredherdependenceonfindinghimthere;andElinorwasresolvednotonlyupongainingeverynewlightastohischaracterwhichherownobservationortheintelligenceofotherscouldgiveher,butlikewiseuponwatchinghisbehaviourtohersisterwithsuchzealousattention,astoascertainwhathewasandwhathemeant,beforemanymeetingshadtakenplace.
