           Elinorsaw,withconcern,theexcessofhersister’ssensibility;butbyMrs.Dashwooditwasvaluedandcherished.Theyencouragedeachothernowintheviolenceoftheiraffliction.Theagonyofgriefwhichoverpoweredthematfirst,wasvoluntarilyrenewed,wassoughtfor,wascreatedagainandagain.Theygavethemselvesupwhollytotheirsorrow,seekingincreaseofwretchednessineveryreflectionthatcouldaffordit,andresolvedagainsteveradmittingconsolationinfuture.Elinor,too,wasdeeplyafflicted;butstillshecouldstruggle,shecouldexertherself.Shecouldconsultwithherbrother,couldreceivehersister-in-lawonherarrival,andtreatherwithproperattention;andcouldstrivetorousehermothertosimilarexertion,andencouragehertosimilarforbearance.

           Margaret,theothersister,wasagood-humored,well-disposedgirl;butasshehadalreadyimbibedagooddealofMarianne’sromance,withouthavingmuchofhersense,shedidnot,atthirteen,bidfairtoequalhersistersatamoreadvancedperiodoflife.
