           "Perhapsyoudonotknow—youmaynothaveheardthatmybrotherislatelymarriedto—totheyoungest—toMissLucySteele."

           HiswordswereechoedwithunspeakableastonishmentbyallbutElinor,whosatwithherheadleaningoverherwork,inastateofsuchagitationasmadeherhardlyknowwhereshewas.

           "Yes,"saidhe,"theyweremarriedlastweek,andarenowatDawlish."

           Elinorcouldsititnolonger.Shealmostranoutoftheroom,andassoonasthedoorwasclosed,burstintotearsofjoy,whichatfirstshethoughtwouldnevercease.Edward,whohadtillthenlookedanywhere,ratherthanather,sawherhurryaway,andperhapssaw—orevenheard,heremotion;forimmediatelyafterwardshefellintoareverie,whichnoremarks,noinquiries,noaffectionateaddressofMrs.Dashwoodcouldpenetrate,andatlast,withoutsayingaword,quittedtheroom,andwalkedouttowardsthevillage—leavingtheothersinthegreatestastonishmentandperplexityonachangeinhissituation,sowonderfulandsosudden;—aperplexitywhichtheyhadnomeansoflesseningbutbytheirownconjectures.
