           "ShallItellyou."

           "Wellthen;IguessthatMr.Willoughbyhunts."

           Mariannewassurprisedandconfused,yetshecouldnothelpsmilingatthequietarchnessofhismanner,andafteramoment’ssilence,said,

           "Oh,Edward!Howcanyou?—ButthetimewillcomeIhope...Iamsureyouwilllikehim."

           "Idonotdoubtit,"repliedhe,ratherastonishedatherearnestnessandwarmth;forhadhenotimaginedittobeajokeforthegoodofheracquaintanceingeneral,foundedonlyonasomethingoranothingbetweenMr.Willoughbyandherself,hewouldnothaveventuredtomentionit.
