           Mostofthe"sets"offurnitureputonthemarketforgeneralsalebythefurniturecompanieswere,whentheyapproachedinanywaythecorrectideaofluxury,imitationsofoneoftheLouisperiods.Thecurtainswerealwaysheavy,frequentlybrocaded,andnotinfrequentlyred.Thecarpetswererichlyfloweredinhighcolorswithathick,velvetnap.Thefurniture,ofwhateverwooditmightbemade,wasalmostinvariablyheavy,floriated,andcumbersome.Thisroomcontainedaheavilyconstructedbedofwalnut,withwashstand,bureau,andwardrobetomatch.Alarge,squaremirrorinagoldframewashungoverthewashstand.Somepoorengravingsoflandscapesandseveralnudefigureswerehungingoldframesonthewall.Thegilt-framedchairswereupholsteredinpink-and-white-floweredbrocade,withpolishedbrasstacks.ThecarpetwasofthickBrussels,palecreamandpinkinhue,withlargebluejardinierescontainingflowerswoveninasornaments.Thegeneraleffectwaslight,rich,andalittlestuffy.
