           NowMr.Winkledidentertainconsiderablemisgivingsintheverylowestrecessesofhisownheart,relativetohisequestrianskill;but,ashewouldnothavethemevensuspected,onanyaccount,heatoncerepliedwithgreathardihood,‘Certainly.Ishouldenjoyitofallthings.’Mr.Winklehadrusheduponhisfate;therewasnoresource.‘Letthembeatthedoorbyeleven,’saidMr.Pickwick.

           ‘Verywell,sir,’repliedthewaiter.

           Thewaiterretired;thebreakfastconcluded;andthetravellersascendedtotheirrespectivebedrooms,toprepareachangeofclothing,totakewiththemontheirapproachingexpedition.

           Mr.Pickwickhadmadehispreliminaryarrangements,andwaslookingoverthecoffee-roomblindsatthepassengersinthestreet,whenthewaiterentered,andannouncedthatthechaisewasreadyanannouncementwhichthevehicleitselfconfirmed,byforthwithappearingbeforethecoffee-roomblindsaforesaid.

           Itwasacuriouslittlegreenboxonfourwheels,withalowplacelikeawine-binfortwobehind,andanelevatedperchforoneinfront,drawnbyanimmensebrownhorse,displayinggreatsymmetryofbone.Anhostlerstoodnear,holdingbythebridleanotherimmensehorseapparentlyanearrelativeoftheanimalinthechaisereadysaddledforMr.Winkle.
