           TherestillremaininganintervaloftwodaysbeforethetimeagreeduponforthedepartureofthePickwickianstoDingleyDell,Mr.WellersathimselfdowninabackroomattheGeorgeandVulture,aftereatinganearlydinner,tomuseonthebestwayofdisposingofhistime.Itwasaremarkablyfineday;andhehadnotturnedthematteroverinhismindtenminutes,whenhewassuddenlystrickenfilialandaffectionate;anditoccurredtohimsostronglythatheoughttogodownandseehisfather,andpayhisdutytohismother-in-law,thathewaslostinastonishmentathisownremissnessinneverthinkingofthismoralobligationbefore.Anxioustoatoneforhispastneglectwithoutanotherhour’sdelay,hestraightwaywalkedupstairstoMr.Pickwick,andrequestedleaveofabsenceforthislaudablepurpose.
