Butonthenightfollowing,itabatedsomewhat;andinthemorningwewenttothevillagetoseekforfood,beingsofamishedwithhungerthatwelostallfeelingofdangerandallwishtoescapeinourdesiretosatisfythecravingsofnature.Butnosoonerhadweobtainedfoodthanwebegantowishthatwehadratherendeavouredtomakeourescapeintothemountains.Thisweattemptedtodosoonafterwards;butthenativeswerenowabletolookafterus,andonourshowingadispositiontoavoidobservationandmaketowardsthemountains,wewereseizedbythreewarriors,whooncemoreboundourwristsandthrustusintoourformerprison.
ItistrueJackmadeavigorousresistance,andknockeddownthefirstsavagewhoseizedhimwithawell-directedblowofhisfist,buthewasspeedilyoverpoweredbyothers.Thuswewereagainprisoners,withtheprospectoftortureandaviolentdeathbeforeus.
