           Restissweet,aswellforthebodyasforthemind.Duringmylongexperience,amidthevicissitudesofachequeredlife,Ihavefoundthatperiodsofprofoundrestatcertainintervals,inadditiontotheordinaryhoursofrepose,arenecessarytothewell-beingofman.Andthenature,aswellastheperiod,ofthisrestvariesaccordingtothedifferenttemperamentsofindividualsandthepeculiarcircumstancesinwhichtheymaychancetobeplaced.Tothosewhoworkwiththeirminds,bodilylabourisrest;tothosewholabourwiththebody,deepsleepisrest;tothedowncast,theweary,andthesorrowful,joyandpeacearerest.Nay,further,Ithinkthattothegay,thefrivolous,thereckless,whensatedwithpleasuresthatcannotlast,evensorrowprovestoberestofakind,although,perchance,itwerebetterthatIshouldcallitreliefthanrest.Thereis,indeed,butoneclassofmentowhomrestisdeniedthereisnoresttothewicked.AtthisIdobuthint,however,asItreatnotofthatrestwhichisspiritual,butmoreparticularlyofthatwhichappliestothemindandtothebody.

           Ofthisrestwestoodmuchinneedonourreturnhome,andwefounditexceedinglysweetwhenweindulgedinitaftercompletingthejourneyjustrelated.Ithadnot,indeed,beenaverylongjourney;nevertheless,wehadpursueditsodiligentlythatourframeswerenotalittleprostrated.
