Whilewewerethusengagedacanoeputofffromshore,andseveralsavagesleapedondeck,oneofwhomadvancedtotheteacherandinformedhimthatTararocouldnotcomeonboardthatday,beingbusywithsomereligiousceremoniesbeforethegods,whichcouldonnoaccountbepostponed.Hewasalsoengagedwithafriendlychief,whowasabouttotakehisdeparturefromtheisland,andthereforebeggedthattheteacherandhisfriendswouldlandandpayavisittohim.Tothistheteacherreturnedanswerthatwewouldlandimmediately.
