           ‘Dearme,’saidtheprimmanintheclothboots,‘itisaveryextraordinarycircumstance.’

           ‘Iamsorryyouhaveforgottenit,’saidMr.BobSawyer,glancingeagerlyatthedoor,ashethoughtheheardthenoiseofglassesjingling;‘verysorry.’

           ‘SoamI,’respondedtheprimman,‘becauseIknowitwouldhaveaffordedsomuchamusement.Nevermind;IdaresayIshallmanagetorecollectit,inthecourseofhalfanhourorso.’

           Theprimmanarrivedatthispointjustastheglassescameback,whenMr.BobSawyer,whohadbeenabsorbedinattentionduringthewholetime,saidheshouldverymuchliketoheartheendofit,for,sofarasitwent,itwas,withoutexception,theverybeststoryhehadeverheard.ThesightofthetumblersrestoredBobSawyertoadegreeofequanimitywhichhehadnotpossessedsincehisinterviewwithhislandlady.Hisfacebrightenedup,andhebegantofeelquiteconvivial.

           ‘Now,Betsy,’saidMr.BobSawyer,withgreatsuavity,anddispersing,atthesametime,thetumultuouslittlemobofglassesthegirlhadcollectedinthecentreofthetable‘now,Betsy,thewarmwater;bebrisk,there’sagoodgirl.’

           ‘Youcan’thavenowarmwater,’repliedBetsy.

           ‘Nowarmwater!’exclaimedMr.BobSawyer.

           ‘No,’saidthegirl,withashakeoftheheadwhichexpressedamoredecidednegativethanthemostcopiouslanguagecouldhaveconveyed.
