           ‘Ido,’saidMr.Pickwick,growingenergetic,aswashiswontinspeakingofasubjectwhichinterestedhim—‘Ido,indeed;andtotellyouthetruth,Mrs.Bardell,Ihavemadeupmymind.’

           ‘Dearme,sir,‘exclaimedMrs.Bardell.

           ‘You’llthinkitverystrangenow,’saidtheamiableMr.Pickwick,withagood-humouredglanceathiscompanion,‘thatIneverconsultedyouaboutthismatter,andneverevenmentionedit,tillIsentyourlittleboyoutthismorningeh?’

           Mrs.Bardellcouldonlyreplybyalook.ShehadlongworshippedMr.Pickwickatadistance,buthereshewas,allatonce,raisedtoapinnacletowhichherwildestandmostextravaganthopeshadneverdaredtoaspire.Mr.
