The Pickwickians
,inHornsey,Highgate,Brixton,andCamberwell—theycannotbutentertainalivelysenseoftheinestimablebenefitswhichmustinevitablyresultfromcarryingthespeculationsofthatlearnedmanintoawiderfield,fromextendinghistravels,and,consequently,enlarginghissphereofobservation,totheadvancementofknowledge,andthediffusionoflearning.
‘That,withtheviewjustmentioned,thisAssociationhastakenintoitsseriousconsiderationaproposal,emanatingfromtheaforesaid,SamuelPickwick,Esq.,G.C.M.P.C.,andthreeotherPickwickianshereinafternamed,forforminganewbranchofUnitedPickwickians,underthetitleofTheCorrespondingSocietyofthePickwickClub.
‘ThatthesaidproposalhasreceivedthesanctionandapprovalofthisAssociation.‘ThattheCorrespondingSocietyofthePickwickClubisthereforeherebyconstituted;andthatSamuelPickwick,Esq.,G.C.M.P.C.,TracyTupman,Esq.,M.P.C.,AugustusSnodgrass,Esq.,M.P.C.,andNathanielWinkle,Esq.,M.P.C.,areherebynominatedandappointedmembersofthesame;andthattheyberequestedtoforward,fromtimetotime,authenticatedaccountsoftheirjourneysandinvestigations,oftheirobservationsofcharacterandmanners,andofthewholeoftheiradventures,togetherwithalltalesandpaperstowhichlocalsceneryorassociationsmaygiverise,tothePickwickClub,stationedinLondon.
