           ‘Ready?’saidtheoldgentlemaninquiringly,whenhisguestshadbeenwashed,mended,brushed,andbrandied.

           ‘Quite,’repliedMr.Pickwick.

           ‘Comealong,then;’andthepartyhavingtraversedseveraldarkpassages,andbeingjoinedbyMr.Tupman,whohadlingeredbehindtosnatchakissfromEmma,forwhichhehadbeendulyrewardedwithsundrypushingsandscratchings,arrivedattheparlourdoor.

           ‘Welcome,’saidtheirhospitablehost,throwingitopenandsteppingforwardtoannouncethem,‘welcome,gentlemen,toManorFarm.’
